The Sustainable Development Goals

Phoenix Design Aid were the first graphic and communication agency to receive formal approval of our work with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The certification is awarded by the Norwegian company DNV.

The certificate illustrates our work to support the achievement of the SDGs. We acknowledge the importance of all 17 goals, but we have chosen to focus on certain SDGs based on our competencies, opportunities, and clients. Specifically, we work with 11 targets within SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals.

The 11 targets are:

  • 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.7
  • 12.2, 12.4 and 12.8
  • 13.1 and 13.3
  • 17.16 and 17.17

SDG 4:

  • Education has a special place in our hearts. Therefore, SDG 4 is of particular significance to us. Knowledge sharing is of great importance for Phoenix Design Aid, and we are always open to share our expertise with others and strive to be as transparent as we possibly can. Our main priority, with regards to knowledge sharing is to share our knowledge in areas such as the SDGs and sustainability, in general.
Phoenix Design Aid’s relation to, and support of, the PDAid Foundation is a part of our contribution to achieving SDG  4 – as well as our work with, and support of, the Sauti Kuu Foundation and the Kilimanjaro Initiative.

SDG 12:

  • Printing is deeply embedded in the history of the company. We have supported and contributed to the development of papers types and printing practices for many years, for example in the development of recycled paper. Having sustainable consumption and production is still of great interest for our company. We still offer printing services, and our goal is to minimize our environmental footprint from paper products. We seek to minimize our footprint through, for example our paper guide, but also by printing less at our offices and by supporting FSC labeled companies.

SDG 13:

  • We always strive to minimize our CO2 emissions, as climate has consistently been an important topic for our company. This goal is closely correlated to SDG 12 – which means that our paper guide is also an important  a part of our climate actions. We buy UN-issued emission credits and neutralize all our CO2 emissions. In the future, we hope to make progress on our neutralization by planting trees.

SDG 17:

  • We refer to ourselves a “partner company” because our approach to everything we do, is based on SDG 17. We value and appreciate all our partnerships and collaborations because they are the most important element of the way our company operates. This means that all of our work is based on partnerships and, thus, influences all of our contributions and work with the other SDGs as well. We choose partners who prioritize sustainability and contribute actively to supporting and achieving the SDGs.

United Nations  Global Compact

We are advanced level member of the United Nations global initiative for social and environmental sustainability, formally known as United Nations Global Compact. The Global Compact embodies Ten Principles based on internationally recognized conventions that cover human rights, employee interests, environmental issues and anticorruption.

We have acceded to the Global Compact and commit to implement the ten principles in our business activities. We communicate our activities annually to the United Nations Global Compact through a sustainability report.

Environment

We make concerted efforts to reduce the environmental impact both internally and among our business partners. We work determinately on organizing production tasks in order to minimize our environmental impact. We have a caring attitude towards nature and environment and only purchase environmentally sustainable paper, inks and varnishes.

Being a low-carbon company is key in our environmental positioning. We purchase UN-issued emission credits. By neutralizing all of our CO2 emissions, we have achieved a Climate Certificate. This website is CO2 neutral as well.
