During 2023-2024, Phoenix Design Aid completed a project for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), building a new website dedicated to the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection. This platform serves as a central hub for information regarding the Declaration’s implementation, which was initiated in 2022, and functions as a key resource for the 22 American countries that have adhered it. The website is specifically designed to assist decision-makers and governmental bodies within these nations, while simultaneously bringing attention to the experiences of migrants.
In creating this website, Phoenix Design Aid developed a unique visual identity, inclusive of the Declaration’s logo, which was incorporated into the website’s design. The chosen color palette of blue and yellow symbolizes trust, calmness and peace as well as optimism and energy, respectively. Building on this foundation, Phoenix Design Aid devised an engaging and interactive UX/UI design featuring a 3D map for the selected countries. The frontend and backend development of the website was built in Drupal CMS, including the integration of an API module for the import of data from another platform.
The initial version of the website was launched in English, with content supplied by the IOM. Phoenix Design Aid also undertook the translation and publication of the content into Spanish, Portuguese and French. Images, that accurately represent the diverse migrant population of the region, were meticulously selected to ensure that the portrayal was always respectful. Additionally, Phoenix Design Aid provided training for content management and continues to offer hosting and technical support to maintain the website’s operational integrity.
The website was launched at a high-level meeting attended by Foreign Affairs Ministers and representatives from endorsing countries. To promote the launch of the website, Phoenix Design Aid also produced an animated video detailing the website’s content and goals.
