Description

The State of Carbon Dioxide Removal (SoCDR) initiative brings together leading researchers from institutions including the University of Oxford, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, PIK, SWP and IIASA. Its mission is to provide the most comprehensive and reliable overview of global progress in Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR), a critical component of achieving climate goals. Today, the SoCDR reports are widely recognized as a trusted source of independent, science-based insights for policymakers, researchers, businesses and civil society.

Phoenix Design Aid was selected as a strategic partner to support the production of SoCDR Edition 3, delivering an integrated solution covering project management, editorial services, design and layout, as well as figure production. The assignment involved supporting the development of a highly complex research publication of approximately 220 pages across ten chapters, accompanied by an executive summary and a broad range of visual assets.

The overall objective was to deliver a publication that combined scientific rigour with clarity, accessibility and visual excellence while supporting a large international team of researchers and contributors.

Phoenix Design Aid worked closely with the SoCDR project management team and international author community to create a structured, transparent and efficient production process. Through project management and proactive editorial guidance, the chapter authors were supported throughout the drafting and revision process, while the designers refined the publication’s visual identity and developed a coherent visual language for the figures and data visualizations. This helped ensure that highly technical climate science was presented in a consistent, accessible and engaging way for a diverse global audience.

With SoCDR Edition 3, Phoenix Design Aid helped transform complex climate science into a publication that combines scientific credibility with clear editorial structure, compelling visual communication and accessible design. The project demonstrates the company’s ability to manage large-scale international knowledge and sustainability publications, in which researchers, editors, designers and project managers work together to maintain academic integrity while making critical knowledge accessible to a global audience.
