The United Nations Environment Programme / Mediterranean Action Plan Coordinating Unit (UN Environment & MAP) came to Phoenix Design Aid for help with the design of a brochure, aiming to help young people, from the age of 10-16 years, understand the history, aim and content of the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region for the Mediterranean (Barcelona Convention), including the purpose of its 35 Articles.
Thus, it was important to keep the design of the brochure educative and entertaining at the same time, resulting a colourful and playful design. To ensure a strong appeal to the young audience, the creation of illustrations was crucial in order to enhance the readability. These were created with the target audience in mind, thus acting as stimulating visuals. In addition to this, Phoenix Design Aid created the illustrations to help create a link between the text and actual environmental and development-related issues.
This case showcases Phoenix Design Aid’s ability to take a legal text, that is built for intergovernmental work, and transform it to an appealing and educative design for a younger audience, thus demonstrating a strong understanding of target audience needs and conceptual knowledge.
