The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a membership Union uniquely composed of both government and civil society organizations. By harnessing the experience, resources and reach of its more than 1,400 Member organizations and the input of some 17,000 experts, IUCN is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it.
Each year, IUCN publishes its annual report to provide a clear, accountable overview of the Secretariat’s performance to its governance body, partners, donors and the wider public. For the 2024 edition, IUCN partnered with Phoenix Design Aid to deliver a compelling and visually impactful report that meets its strategic communication and transparency goals.
The report’s primary function is to demonstrate how IUCN has fulfilled its role as the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network, combining science, traditional knowledge, and multi-stakeholder collaboration to drive nature conservation and sustainable development.
Phoenix Design Aid was responsible for the entire development process – from editorial strategy and content coordination to design execution and delivery. The report was produced in three official languages (English, French and Spanish), ensuring accessibility for a global audience. A key strength of the 2024 edition lies in its concise and factual storytelling, adherence to the IUCN style manual and the strong visual representation of achievements and impact.
This project also included the development of infographics to simplify complex information, a PDF with interactive hyperlinks, published on the IUCN digital library and promoted via the organization’s communication channels.
