Description

Phoenix Design Aid partnered with UN Climate Change (UNFCCC) to produce a high-level video showcasing the critical role of REDD+ National Strategies and Action Plans (NS/APs) in helping developing countries achieve climate targets, reduce deforestation and access results-based finance. The project was developed for the Transparency Division’s AFOLU Unit and was designed for use at international forums and high-level events, including COP31.

The challenge was to transform a highly technical climate policy topic into an engaging and accessible narrative for policy-makers, government officials, climate negotiators and development partners. The video needed to communicate both the strategic importance of REDD+ planning and the real-world impact that implementation can have across different national contexts, enabling REDD+ stakeholders to better understand the benefits of NS/Aps while also encouraging broader uptake among developing countries.

Phoenix Design Aid developed a 8-minute video that combines interviews with senior government representatives from Indonesia, Guyana, Costa Rica and Ghana with custom motion graphics, sourced footage, branding elements and strategic messaging. Each country’s segment illustrates a distinct aspect of REDD+ implementation, from policy integration and institutional coordination to tackling commodity-driven deforestation and connecting climate action with carbon market opportunities.

To ensure consistency, a strong visual narrative and an accessible format, our team:

  • Produced animated introductory and closing sequences aligned with UNFCCC’s existing REDD+ communication materials
  • Integrated testimonies from ministers and senior officials into a cohesive storyline
  • Sourced and curated high-quality footage of forests, landscapes and REDD+ activities
  • Developed motion graphics, lower thirds, transitions and on-screen information consistent with UNFCCC branding
  • Delivered multilingual subtitle versions to support global outreach
  • Managed the entire production workflow, from creative development and editing through to final delivery

The project demonstrates how high-quality visual storytelling can support international climate action by turning technical knowledge into engaging communication that informs, inspires and mobilizes decision-makers.
